Having passedV1speed, the crew continued the takeoff, but the plane did not gain enough airspeed with the three remaining engines, because the severed electrical cables prevented the retraction of the undercarriage. The plane was over its maximum weight for take-off, but any effect was thought to be negligible. At the time of the crash, the aircraft had flown for 11,989 hours and had made 4,873 take-off and landing cycles.
